Here’s Lex. Lex is an NPC, who gives a secondary quest to the player. But since it is just a little diorama and not a video game, it’s fake. So Lex is a fake NPC, who gives a fake secondary quest to a fake player.
The biome where Lex lives is an arid one. The earth is dry, windswept, and the water is toxic. It hasn’t always been the case, and it’s the only thing that the player has to discover: why did the water become non-drinking? (I have the answer, but why would I write it here, it’s all fake, in case you’ve forgotten).
It has been created during my internship at The Pack, as an exercise to learn more about Unity, between two projects. Modeled, rigged, and animated on Maya, painted on Substance, and I worked on the shader graph and vfx graph of Unity (using HDRP) to do the fx of dust, wind, reflection of the waterfall, particles of water, as well as fireflies. The compositing and lights have been done on Unity too, what an amazing tool! I quickly added a sound effect, and a bro made Lex’s voice with his banjo (thx Nath). Real-time was fun to try.
